In the Beginning

We can only imagine a conversation among the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, contemplating their unity and purpose.

God, the father “Let us create man in our image; they will reflect our glory."

God, the son “I will go forth as their Redeemer when they fall away from grace."

God, the holy spirit, “And I will dwell within them, guiding them towards truth and righteousness."

This dialogue reflects their shared intention to create humanity with free will, while also planning for redemption through Christ’s sacrifice.

This conversation highlights their unity in purpose, while creating a world for humanity to achieve a personal relationship with God, despite sin and separation from Him.

The attributes of God reveals His nature as a holy, loving, just, merciful, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, which together form a foundation for understanding His character throughout scripture.

Fellowship in one being in three persons, God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit, is characterized through a unity and mutual indwelling that is essential to understanding their interaction with creation.

The fellowship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exists eternally.

John 17:21-23

“That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one, I in them and you in me, so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

Jesus prayed for His followers to be one as He and the Father are one. This indicates a unity that transcends time and space.

Each person of the Trinity fully indwells the others without losing their distinctiveness. This mutual indwelling means that they share a perfect communion in love, purpose, and action.

John 14:10-11

“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.”

Jesus expresses this unity when He says that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him.

Creation can be seen as an extension of this divine fellowship.

Genesis 1:26

“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Let us make mankind in our image, Implies a collaborative act involving all three persons, suggesting that creation itself was born out of their unified will and purpose.

The fellowship among the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit leads to creation being an expression of divine love. Each person contributes uniquely by, the Father initiating creation. the Son (through whom all things were named) embodies God's creative word.

The Holy Spirit brings life and order to creation.

John 1-3

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.”

Genesis 1:2

“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”

Fellowship continues as God interacts with His creation through providence and redemption.

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in sustaining life and guiding believers. Jesus represents God's desire to engage directly with humanity.

The ultimate goal of this divine fellowship extends beyond creation to redemption through Christ's sacrifice on the cross.

Romans 5:10

“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”

Restoring broken fellowship due to sin between humanity and God, serves as a foundation, illustrating acts of love towards creation.

Colossians 1:15-17

“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Jeremiah 32:17

“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

Ephesians 4:1-5

“For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us for adoption to sonship.”
